Knitting - Socks

I have tried twice this evening to cast on and knit my second sock. I have failed twice. I keep dropping, twisting and making stitches on the first few rows. I will try again tomorrow. I hope I'm not going to be a one sock wonder...

Here are the lovely socks that my friend Karen (the professional artist) knitted for me.

I really do need to knit another one...

You can purchase small circular needles to start the top on (if you can find them). Also, to get the stripes to match on each one. Start at the same place on the yarn each time (same color). That will make the stripes look matched on both socks when you have them on.
there are some good websites that suggest how to not twist your stitches when joining. You might possibly be adding stitches when you go from one needle to the next by yarning over the needle instead of going around it. I've done that goof before.
Good luck.
