Urban Threads

Urban Threads sell designs electronically for any crafty use... machine embroidery, hand embroidery, paper crafting etc...

The name does sum up the style of the designs!

I have made one purchase for a gift I'm making.

ssshhhhh its a secret!

There are many more on my wishlist... the pdf downloads are instant and the prices very attractive. Although I do wonder how they cope with right clicking...

ArtCubes - update

using my Terri Stegmiller fabric - ArtCubes.

This is a good example of why NOT to use cheap stranded cotton...

Beginning Embroidery

More stitching on my Beginning Embroidery piece...

I have added some more running stitch, cross stitch and herringbone.

I like the herringbone variation at the bottom right and the straight stitches highlighting the white dots at bottom centre.

I also quite like it upside down...

Beginning Embroidery

I have added more stitching to my Beginning Embroidery piece...

I have added some running stitch, cross stitch and split stitch.

I have never actually done split stitch before and I really like it. I used 2 strands of embroidery thread and it gave a nice chain stitch effect.

More to follow...

Beginning Embroidery

I have done a doodle (inspired by Joan Miro) on my printed fabric for my Beginning Embroidery piece...

So far I have just used backstitch and whipped backstitch.

Toddler Girl helped to pull the needle through the fabric. She seemed quite fascinated... it was a proud Mummy moment.

I aim to add some running stitch, cross stitch, chevron and herringbone as described in Lesson 2.

Beginning Embroidery

Despite the fact I have lots of projects and ideas in my head, and lots of projects and ideas half started and nearly finished I have signed up for another Joggles class.

Having stalled I needed something to focus on and a short 4 week embroidery course seemed perfect.

(ignore the fact I have yet to 'finish' 3 of the other Joggles classes - see here, here and here)

So... I'm 'doing' Susan Sorrell's Beginning Embroidery class.

Its in 4 parts. First we create a background then we apply straight stitches, looped stitches and
fancy stitches. Susan has suggested using the art of Joan Miro as inspiration for the stitch patterns.

These are a few of my favourite images...

Here are my sketchbook doodles...

I especially like this arrangement...

Now to the fabric...

stalled

I seem to have lost my mojo again.

I have cancelled/postponed my August exhibition as I simply don't have enough time to experiment, develop and finish one piece of work let alone six or eight.

I didn't leave enough time (as usual) or indeed make enough time (procrastination, knitting, shop...) to do any stitching and I have no space in my head to make any arty decisions in such a short time frame.

so...

I need to make some space!
