recycling - felting wool (ish) clothing

This is the waistcoat from Margaret at margaret-cooter.  She is generously gifting some of her handknits.

I do like the stranded work on the inside of it.  I may felt part of it and keep part of it unfelted...

knitting - another scarf

I am trying NOT to knit another shawl (unless someone wants one as a gift) as I don't wear them (apart from this...)

The type of scarf that I do like and do wear is very long and wide and very fine.  This was last years favourite (a bargain in the winter sales 2008)

I have been looking for a pattern that would give me a long scarf that can be doubled up around my neck and the end pulled through and for it to be a fine knit when flat but cosy when gathered up.

I came across this free Sublime pattern which seems to fit the bill...

apologises for the tiny photo...

The pattern measurements have it bigger than my scarf, I may do a swatch (gasp!) to see how light the stitch pattern is and how many stitches I need to cast on to get my 45cm width.

Knitting - Rosie

backstory here and updated here.

She is hairless and naked...

I was going to use ribbon to make the hair (like the 'original') and put a call out for 6 inches of fancy grosgrain or satin ribbons.  But I think I might experiment with acrylic felt instead.. I think it would suit her woolliness better...

Nearly 4 Year Old now wants her to have lots of different clothes... ones she can put on and take off herself...

The 4ply cardigan pattern I knitted for All Things Knitting fits nicely (need to shorten the arms though).

And the original Poppy pattern comes with a dress pattern (seen here on my first doll).

And I still have the original idea of flippy/pleated styled skirt on Ravelry.

knitting - samples to do list update

A sample list ahead of all things knitting

Louisa Harding Thistle - Featherbed from Little Cake by Louisa Harding.  Karen is knitting this.  We're going to get a display head to put it on! Knitted with stripes.  Still have to get a head to put it on!

Louisa Harding Willow Tweed - we like Hawthorn in Little Cake but we only have two hanks of it.  So we may do something like this with a woven stitch pattern.  Only going to use one hank of this now, so we have one for display.

Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino - baby cardigan (it'll be small but it'll soft and cute).

Debbie Bliss EcoBaby - sample of lace shawl from EcoBaby pattern book.  Karen is doing this.

Louisa Harding Grace Wool & Silk - Bainbridge Scarf on pepperknit.com?  Again, we'll try and keep this for display and use on the day, maybe use up one ball on a sample....

Original plan was to knit little jumpers and cardigans to show 4ply, DK and Aran weight yarn. So far I have done a 4ply cardigan and a DK cardigan using these patterns:-

Rabbit Raglan Sweater and Poppy Cardigan (scroll down for Poppy)

Instead of an Aran jumper I have decided to do a mini cable sample (I have never cabled before...).  I really like owl cable and hope to do a little sample inspired by this hat at Penguin Purls...

I have also started on the bunting using Karen Wessel's bunting pattern (ravelry link)...  bunting wasn't on the orginal to do list but I couldn't resist...

recycling - felting wool (ish) clothing

I bought this cardigan last month at a local charity sale.  Its not very me...

I have since felted it in 2 hot washes...

I also have an accidentally felted grey cardigan and a hole in my first pair of wool socks.

(took me a year to knit them and I got a hole in the heel within 6 months!)

Yesterday Margaret at margaret-cooter generously offered some of her old hand knits to readers, I bagged the Kaffe Fasset design with a view to felting it too (although I may not...)

I am now off to research ideas on what to do for my new recycling project...

Miller Terrace

I've just read through my Miller Terrace design notes... think I might revisit this subject ahead of the St Monans Art Festival Exhibition...

Pom Pom - Felt Studies

It did look like this

But then I got abit impulsive with a pencil and started sketching lines, which I didn't like... I then washed it which surprisingly removed the pencil marks but the colour ran... oh dear.

So I started again

Still a work in progress but I'm not sure I like this version either...

Seedlings 2010

Carrot and French Beans.  Nearly 4 year old ate the Tomato before I got a photo....

We've had half a dozen courgettes and a full (small pot) crop of radish.

Only a few strawberries (birds!) and patiently waiting for the blueberries to turn blue.

Nearly 4 year old will now eat salad leaves (mild ones). Slugs ate ALL the miniature sunflowers (and dwarf beans)

Mad Hatter Hat

I need to make a mad hatter hat for Nearly 4 Year Old.

I have cardboard and blue fabric and a very willing helper.

Now all I need is some time...

Knitting - Rosie

Explained here.

Using Poppy pattern by Ysolda Teague. Here's one I made earlier...

Did 3 less knit rows on face to make it less spoon shaped.
Added pink knickers at row 15 of the body but should have started it at row 10.
Tried to add white socks and red trainers but decided to knit them separately instead.
Have found a pattern for flippy/pleated styled skirt on Ravelry.
