Lanwei

My brother and I visited the Lanwei/Decaying End exhibition at St Andrews Museum.

Its the first solo photography exhibition by Stanley Wong (anothermountainman). The photographs are part of an ongoing project documenting abandoned, incomplete building projects from across Asia; building projects aborted when the frenzied property boom in China and surrounding countries collapsed in the late 1900s.

The photos are big with differing style - some with staged figures - but my favourites were the huge tattered buildings...

Painting

Whilst painting with Big Girl (who is currently fascinated by colour mixing) I knocked up this little masterpiece...

this is the best thing I have ever painted. EVER. Usually when I paint the colours go muddy, my use of colour is predictable and its all very flat. But I love this picture, painted on copier paper using poster paint and a crappy brush.

I'm not entirely satisfied by the quality of the materials used (painted on copier painting using poster paint and a crappy brush) so I used my current favourite tool (Microsft Picture It!) and applied some effects...

Beginning Embroidery

Despite the fact I have lots of projects and ideas in my head, and lots of projects and ideas half started and nearly finished I have signed up for another Joggles class.

Having stalled I needed something to focus on and a short 4 week embroidery course seemed perfect.

(ignore the fact I have yet to 'finish' 3 of the other Joggles classes - see here, here and here)

So... I'm 'doing' Susan Sorrell's Beginning Embroidery class.

Its in 4 parts. First we create a background then we apply straight stitches, looped stitches and
fancy stitches. Susan has suggested using the art of Joan Miro as inspiration for the stitch patterns.

Scottish Arts Council - Own Art

I picked up a leaflet about the Scottish Arts Council scheme offering interest-free credit for people to buy contemporary art and craft.

You can buy paintings, sculpture, prints etc through participating galleries.

Really like this idea...

Although it maybe goes against the current credit crunch grain of living modestly within your means rather than living on tick...
