Daisychains ABC Crewel Sampler

Daisychains ABC Crewel Work Pattern Sampler by Alicia Paulson

Patten has been transferred and stitching has begun.

I've never used crewel wools before.  They're very different from my usual smooth embroidery cotton....

Daisychains ABC Crewel Sampler

I have just seen my last post on a different monitor and it seems the brown one is a better match...

I think I need a second (real life) opinion.... and I'll just pick the one that looks good - whether it matches the original or not!

Daisychains ABC Crewel Sampler

I've decided the fabric I had for this sampler was too gold.  I'm now torn between two other fabrics... one a more definite brown, the other more yellow...

gold

brown
yellow
I think the yellow one matches the original colour best....

Sewing on Leaves - update

Original post here in Oct 2009, it did look like this...

and it now looks like this:-

I've stored it a folder, unpressed and unpreserved.  The colours have faded and some of the leaves have cracked as they have dried, but its still lovely to look at.

backside of cross stitched colour

Whilst attaching some loose pages into my sketchbook I came across this cross stitch sample.

I did it ages ago by blending single strands of red, blue and yellow threads.  The front can be seen in this post

However the backside (as usual) looks so much better!

These are from the hand stitched tablecloth mentioned here.

I love the back sides!

Makes me want to stitch more buildings...

footprints - printing

inspired by my shoe prints in the snow I made some prints using a shoe and black paint.

I did try to do mono printing using a (small) sheet of glass and some black paint, but the paint was too runny and the bumps on the shoes too rounded.  My brayer also left marks on the glass too.  I was most successful using paper rather than fabric but overall I'm quite pleased.  Especially as the whole experiment took 15 minutes from start to clear up!

For the last one I used a rubber to draw circles on the glass before printing.
