I lost a pea plant to the slugs and the french beans have not done well (too cold and windy perhaps).  But the lettuce is doing well.  The radish is looking good and the carrots are peeping through too.

Courgettes have also struggled with the chop and change weather... would have been better to leave them in the conservatory for longer I think... radish are doing well though...

Tomatoes are ok... although I have mixed them up and I'm not entirely sure which are cordon and which are bush...

Still haven't got the cover on the greenhouse... this weekend maybe.

Whilst picking up some more big pots at the garden nursery I saw some broad bean plants... I love broad beans....

I'm now going to try and find some baby sweetcorn plants as Nearly School Girl is slightly manic about them and has me a wee bit addicted too... not sure how easy it will be to grow them in a container in a windy Fife garden.

sadly the peas and beans didn't make it.  I think it was too hot inside the propagator (non heated just a clear lid in a conservatory) and they got scorched....

The courgettes and squash did ok and I have potted them on (we did lose 2 squash as the stem was growing downwards (seed in wrong way?)

So I've resown some pea and bean seeds but I've not put them inside a propagator...

I added some lettuce seeds as a wee experiment.  The lettuce is miniature iceberg hearts.

Our tomato and cucumber seeds arrived and are now in the propagator...

Four Year Old and I started our fairy garden in a large pot today.

No photos yet as its just dirt with a saucer (pond) and upturned terracotta pot (house).  We've sown some chive seeds to make big 'grass' and cress (for little grass).

Ideas include painting some large pebbles, adding a courgette plant (will give a thick 'trunk' and big shady leaves), a bean plant (beanstalk), paint the terracotta pot and add a flowering plant (not sure which one... how big do petunias grow?).

A little wooden bench would be good too.... and some bunting...

Four Year Old and I planted our veg seeds today - perhaps a little early given the Scottish weather...

I have another seed tray on order and I hope to do succession planting this year with the beans and peas and radish so we can enjoy them throughout the summer and not just for 6 weeks!

each column has 5 cells (thus hopefully 5 plants!) and from left to right we have

The empty cells are for our red cordon tomatoes and yellow bush tomatoes and our little cucumbers (NEW for 2011) which haven't arrived yet.

I have also ordered a new plastic cover for our walk in greenhouse.  The old one was rather battered and ripped after last summers winds... which reminds me... I need some kind of windbreaker for the bean and pea wigwams...

81 made it into bigger pots

Back in January I took advantage of a special offer by Thompson & Morgan to buy lots of tiny petunia plug plants, which I pot on to grow bigger and stronger before planting outside.  I remember they cost £4.99.  I thought the offer was for 48. They arrived through my letter box last week... all 84 of them.

Luckily I still have all the little pots I had from last years tiny geranium plug plant offer but even so... I will still have to find more pots for my other seeds (sweet peas and nasturtium)  and some more space in the conservatory (which is now a photography studio/greenhouse)

I'm looking forward to lots of colour this summer.

Seedlings 2010

Carrot and French Beans.  Nearly 4 year old ate the Tomato before I got a photo....

We've had half a dozen courgettes and a full (small pot) crop of radish.

Only a few strawberries (birds!) and patiently waiting for the blueberries to turn blue.

Nearly 4 year old will now eat salad leaves (mild ones). Slugs ate ALL the miniature sunflowers (and dwarf beans)
