calendar challenge - January 2011

Overall I'm happy!  Its very messy and there were a few times when I did want to bin it and start again.  Like at this point...

I couldn't find a snowflake stamp, so used a doily edge as a stencil.  Which looked ok but not great.  I then foolish started stippling/stamping the white paint on the page and then using my fingers and before I knew it I was splattering paint and it all got a bit messy.

I like the splatter effect (I will use that again) and I like the doily more (compared to the blotchy bits!)

I looked through Four Year Olds sticker collection and added some to the page... and then some glitter.  I think the whole page would benefit from some kind of 'wash' to make it 'blend' a bit better... and keep the stickers stuck down!

Knit a Poem

Stanza is Scotland's International Poetry Festival held in St Andrews, Fife.  March 16 - 20th, 2011.

This year they are doing a knitted poem inspired by this huge project by The Poetry Society in London 2009...  It measure 13 x 9 metres!

I have been assigned the letters A and N.

I've never done any colour work, other than stripes so this is nice challenge for me.  The squares are to measure approximately 15cm x 15cm and given my loose tension and the need to keep the stitches firm to get  good letter definition I may have to practice a bit!

I have worked it out!  It was very very easy.... not sure why I missed the option within Template Designer...

knitting - penelope

Can you tell what it is yet?

It is for Sea Queen Day 2011.  A gala day held annually in St Monans.  Our Stitching Group has a stall each year to sell handmade stuff in aid of a local charity.

This Penelope is so far coming out better than her sister!  The bottom isn't wonky and I managed the eye this time.  I knitted the body on straight needles as I didn't have 2.75mm circulars, so I need to sew up the top of her head.

Quite fancy an orange or yellow polka dot ribbon...

knitting - handwarmers

 

New handwarmers for me. A very quick knit using this pattern.

I used King Cole Big Value Chunky which was Big Value but it looks it...  I think they will do well for this winter but I may invest in some Rowan Cocoon (nearly four times the price) for next winter...

I will also knit them longer....
